    Prelude

It was a snowy, silent night.

It's winter in the Ashenvale forest, and all the animals in the forest were hibernating. All but two.

The eerie silence of the night is shattered into a million pieces by a ear-deafening roar, as the long awaited birth of a cub had finally come true for the Frostsaber father. However, the birth of the cub would not be so easy as it was predicted to be. A hungry group of Gnolls, consisting of a Brute and three Assassins, had planned to seize this opportunity to try and get themselves a free and easy meal. Knowing his mate will be having difficulties giving birth, it is up to the Frostsaber father alone to defend her against the incoming Gnoll threat.

The group of four Gnolls advanced forward to attack the Frostsaber mother, headed by the savage Gnoll Brute. The Frostsaber father lunged toward the Gnoll Brute with a loud roar, claws exposed.

The Frostsaber pounced on the unwary Gnoll Brute from the side, baring his powerful fangs and prepared for a lethal bite to the neck with his sabre-toothed canines. Just before the fangs striked the Brute, he used his mace to defend himself.

"Rak'Li Tha!*" The Gnoll Brute cried out, struggling. Hearing the command, the three Gnoll Assassins approached the Frostsaber from behind and fired their venom-tipped arrows from their crossbows as the Frostsaber tiger struggled with the Gnoll Brute. Caught by surprise, the Frostsaber was hit by all three of the arrows. The poison was paralysing, as soon as it reached the heart, cardiac arrest was inevitable. The once legendary Frostsaber tiger of Ashenvale fell dead on the forest floor. As soon as it started, it ended.

In this period of time, the cub had been born and covered with snow by the Frostsaber mother in order to hide the cub from the sight of the Gnolls.

"He's safe. You have to learn to be independent from now on." The Frostsaber mother whispered to the newly-born cub.

Seeing one adult Frostsaber still alive, but weak and exhausted, and confident of their victory, the group of Gnolls proceeded to taunt the Frostsaber.

"Oh poor little kitty-cat! I thought you were the so-called legendary beings of the forest? I can't believe you got killed so easily. You're so pathetic!" The Gnoll Brute mocked, full of excitement and blithe, and laughing hysterically. "This is the first time we Gnolls ever killed Frostsabers!" The three Gnoll Assassins all laughed in unison soon after.

Despite being mocked, the Frostsaber tiger had no energy left to attack as a result of the labor she had just gone through.

One arrow was all they need to kill this weak feline, and as her vision blurred, she caught sight of the Gnolls laughing like madmen once again.

The group of Gnolls carried the two Frostsaber bodies on their shoulders, and prepared to return to camp for a feast and celebration.

When they turned their backs, a small head suddenly popped out of the snow. It looked left and right, curious about this new world it has been exposed to. It climbed out, slowly and steadily, until the whole of its body was out of the snow.

    A new life began.

    [Chapter One]

The first signs of dawn approached. Winter's over, it's spring.

It's the first day of spring, the snow was beginning to melt, and all the animals were waking up from their long sleep.

The little Frostsaber cub, curious of his new surroundings, looked around him.

As a new-born, he was unable walk properly, and his vision, blurry. All he saw were patches of white, and red. He looked up, and saw patches of blue and swaying green.

Staggering, and struggling to stand up, the cub walked unsteadily to the patches of red in front of him. Unknown to the little cub, it was blood. He played with blood-stained snow, tossing it around, covering it over him and then shaking it off. Little did he know that the blood from the snow was the blood of his own parents.

By this time, his vision became clearer, and hearing, sharper. He was able to see the rich foliage around him. He heard the chirping of birds, the rustling of the leaves. Looming shadows cascaded everywhere, and a gust of wind blew at the cub's face. The cub sat down to rest, and enjoyed the cool morning breeze.

An enormous spider suddenly fell from a tree, and landed in front of the Frostsaber, surprising him. The enormous eight-legged arachnid raised its fangs and towered over the dazed cub. Little did the cub know that the spider is none other than the infamous Black Arachnia.

"A free meal," The spider hissed, and prepared her fangs for the coup de grâce. "I love free meals!"

Just before the spider struck, the tree behind the cub suddenly seemed to have come alive; two branches grew from the sides, forming arms and torso. The bark looked like as if it had grown a face, and it was uprooting itself from the forest floor. The spider froze at the sight of the Treant.

The Treant advanced forward and started to pound the enormous spider. Instead of backing off, Black Arachnia fought back.

Jumping up to her web, she pulled her abdomen towards the Treant, and injected her offspring into it. The baby spiders began to tear away at the insides of the Treant, and soon Black Arachnia had four more allies.

The massive spider began to move towards the helpless Frostsaber cub, thinking that there was nothing that can stop her from having her meal.

All of a sudden, a figure with a wooden staff appeared next to the cub, who caught the Frostsaber cub by surprise. The figure was tall, wore a long cape, and had a long beard. His arms were muscular, and had two horns protruding from the top of his head.

"Evil spider, how dare you harm the trees of the forest! What is your business here?" The figure shouted, pointing his staff at the spider.

Stopping in her tracks, she hissed, "It is none of your business, Night Elf. If you would excuse me, I have matters to attend to. I do not wish for any violence."

"You have no right to harm nature, and it is an offence to harm the creatures of the wild. Be'gone, spider!"

"I did not ask for any violence, you asked for it. Attack, my babies!"

The four baby spiders advanced towards the Night Elf. Meanwhile, Black Arachnia lunged at the Night Elf, with fangs ready to strike. The Night Elf dropped his staff and held his position, awaiting the spider's attack.

    [Chapter Two]

The Night Elf dropped his staff and held his position, awaiting the spider's attack.

"You stupid Night Elf! Doing nothing as I prepare to attack you? Prepare to die!" shouted the gigantic eight-legged arachnid, Black Arachnia. At the same time, the spiderlings were getting very close to the mysterious Night Elf, yet he was still doing nothing, as if awaiting death.

"You have no idea who you are up against," the tall figure replied. "I do not need my staff to kill you."

Immediately after, a row of trees sprouted from the forest floor with amazing speed. The ground shook violently, and soon, the row of trees formed an impenetrable wall in front of the mysterious yet powerful Night Elf.

Seeing this, the spider braced for impact on the wall of trees. She landed on one of them with all eight of her legs, and jumped off, landing on the ground. Meanwhile, another tree behind the dazed Frostsaber cub was turning into a Treant, again.

"Another Treant?" laughed Black Arachnia. "Weaklings! They stand absolutely no chance against me and my spiders!"

    "Weaklings? See for yourself, spider."

The arachnid looked at the newly-formed Treant, and stared in shock. The newer Treant was much bigger, and stronger than the previous one. Undaunted by the more powerful Treant, and confident of her victory, she ordered her spiderlings to attack the Treant.

Unexpectedly, the Treant seemed to be immune to the spiderlings' attacks. The Treant grabbed all of the spiderlings with one scoop, and crushed them with its powerful branch-like arms.

The Night Elf raised his right hand, and suddenly roots sprouted from below Black Arachnia, entangling her. The wall of trees soon turned into another four more Treants. All the five Treants approached the arachnid, and surrounded her. They began to attack the helpless spider, scratching and pounding her with their branch-like arms.

Thinking that the spider had no chance of survival and escape, the tall Night Elf turned toward the Frostsaber cub, and introduced himself.

"I am Malfurion, Archdruid of the Night Elves." The tall figure explained, in a wise tone.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew at Malfurion and the cub. Sensing it was not a normal gust of wind, Malfurion picked up his staff from the forest floor, and prepared for attack.

Spikes suddenly thrusted from below the ground, slicing three of the five Treants in half. A shadowy, spiky, and bug-like figure suddenly appeared beside Black Arachnia. It slashed at the remaining two Treants with its sharp claws on its front legs, killing them.

"My love, what happened?" The figure asked, with a low tone.

Black Arachnia, being beaten until she was unconscious, does not reply. Her body was lifeless and did not move.

    Black Arachnia was dead.

"I'll get you for this someday, Malfurion. You will pay dearly for killing Black Arachnia." With this, the figure picked up the lifeless body of Black Arachnia, and disappeared. Another gust of wind ensued.

    "Anub'arak."

Carrying the cub on his shoulders, Malfurion chanted a spell, and teleported away.

    [Chapter Three]

Malfurion waved his staff, and teleported away.

The Archdruid of the Night Elves, Malfurion, teleported with the Frostsaber cub to their Night Elven homeland.

The teleportation was instant, and the all the cub saw was a sudden change in landscape. In his even newer surroundings, Night Elven warriors paved the way for the Archdruid, while staring curiously at the cub on Malfurion's shoulder as he passed by.

The first to approach Malfurion and question him about the cub was the Pandaren Brewmaster, Mangix.

The Pandaren Brewmaster resembled a cross between a panda and a human. He wore a loose silk robe and a triangle-shaped hat, carrying a keg full of his brewed ale under his right armpit and using a long stick crafted with oak as a weapon. Hailing from the great Pandaren Empire, Pandaria, Mangix looked like a harmless brewmaster, but he was amazingly agile and physically strong, making him a valuable member of the Sentinels. Always seen smiling, he made the Sentinel homeland a peaceful place.

"What is this feline you are bringing into the base? Is it so significant that it needs attention from Malfurion?" Mangix questioned, with the usual accent that all Pandarens had.

Turning his head towards Mangix, Malfurion replied, "Any creature that belongs to Mother Nature is worthy of such attention from me. Are you envious, my Pandaren friend?"

"Of course not, Malfurion. I was just curious, as I have never seen Malfurion carry kitty-cats before. I want to play with the cat! Do I have permission to do that, Shan'do?"

Laughing at Mangix's attempt to speak Night Elf language, Malfurion warned, "This isn't a normal cat, Mangix. It's a Frostsaber tiger. Frostsaber cubs are extremely curious and that curiosity might get them into trouble."

"No matter, I will take care of it to the best of my ability!" Mangix replied immediately, smiling broadly.

"Okay, I will let you have the cub, but make sure that it doesn't get into any form of trouble or you will be held responsible. Is that understood?"

The Pandaren Brewmaster nodded his head anxiously, signifying a promise. Mangix puts his oaken staff behind him, attaching it to a holder on his back, and then reaching out for the Frostsaber cub. Malfurion handed the cub over to the Pandaren Brewmaster, and reminded Mangix to feed the cub immediately as it is a new-born.

Carrying and rocking the cub in his arms, Mangix walked briskly to his Pandaren village located at the border of Ashenvale Forest. Mangix kept tickling the cub, but suddenly, the cub seemed to dislike it after some time. Not knowing what the Frostsaber felt, Mangix continued to tickle it, until the cub was unable to take it and reached for the Pandaren Brewmaster's face while waving its paws wildly, as if attempting to scratch him.

The Pandaren Brewmaster stopped tickling, and held the cub away from his face, making it as far from him as he possibly could.

"What a naughty and agressive little fellow this cub is," Mangix exclaimed, frowning at the cub. "Well, that makes it even more adorable!" After that, Mangix changed expression, this time smiling widely.

    - - - - - - -

Mangix was walking through the forest to his village, with the Frostsaber cub in his arms. Rocking and lulling the cub to sleep, Mangix suddenly sensed a nearby evil. He prepared to draw his oaken stick, and readied for any form of attack or hostility.

A sudden gust of wind suddenly blew in Mangix's direction.

    "Anub'arak."

The Frostsaber cub, once again let curiousity get the better of it, and freed itself from Mangix's arms. It tried to chase the evil presence. Seeing this, Mangix drew his stick and ran towards the cub in a desperate attempt to avoid it from being harmed from the Nerubian Assassin.

The Pandaren Brewmaster grabbed hold of the cub, and ushered it to safety behind a tall tree while he prepared for battle. The Pandaren Brewmaster readied his stick, and looked around him, prepared to fend off the Nerubian Assassin's attack.

"Have you ever tasted the feeling of seeing your lover die?" Anub'arak murmured. "I am the Undead, but that doesn't mean I have no feelings!"

    Another gust of wind blew.

The Nerubian Assassin appeared out of nowhere, revealing himself and attacked the Pandaren Brewmaster. Agile and expecting the attack, the Pandaren Brewmaster used his oaken stick to defend himself from the ferocious attack. The Nerubian Assassin became invisible again.

"Malfurion will pay for killing Black Arachnia! Anub'arak bellowed. "The first one to die will be you!"

Predicting an attack from the hind, the Pandaren Brewmaster lowered his weapon and crouches.

"Fool! Fancy lowering your guard when I'm going to kill you! You're courting death, Mangix!" The Nerubian Assassin exclaimed, laughing at Mangix's stupidity.

Ignorant of Anub'arak's mockings, the Pandaren Brewmaster continued to stay in the same position.

"Too eager to die? I shall grant your wish!" Anub'arak shouted, satisfied that he can get revenge for Black Arachnia. The Pandaren Brewmaster sensed Anub'arak very nearby, stood up and stomped the ground using his enormous foot, resulting in a minor tremor. Caught by surprise, the Nerubian Assassin staggered backwards, and his invisibility wore off. For the first time, the Frostsaber cub and Pandaren Brewmaster saw the Nerubian Assassin clearly.

The Nerubian Assassin was bug-like, and of considerable size. Having a total of six limbs; four for walking, and two front, jagged limbs for attacking purposes, the Nerubian Assassin was a great sight to behold. Purple and green in color, and having patterns of orange on it's exoskeleton, this was a monstrous beast that you wouldl not live to fight with.

Anub'arak advanced towards the Pandaren Brewmaster, locking its jagged front legs with Mangix's stick. Due to the sheer power and strength of the Nerubian Assassin, the oaken stick broke with ease, and Mangix was left with no weapon to fight with.

Forcing the Pandaren Brewmaster into a corner, Anub'arak threatened to kill him, while speaking of the suffering he endured when Black Arachnia was killed in battle with Malfurion. The Frostsaber cub, excited about all the commotion, participated and ran towards Anub'arak from his blind spot. The cub leaped and bit him fiercly in his left hind leg, and while Anub'arak was groaning with pain, the cub used his claws and swiped the Nerubian Assassin's right leg.

Seeing an opportunity to strike, the Pandaren Brewmaster used his needle-like claws on his paw to scratch Anub'arak's head. The Pandaren Brewmaster followed up with a powerful stomp, and another ferocious scratch to the Nerubian Assassin's head.

Another gust of wind blew, once again.

Another fellow Nerubian of Anub'arak, but smaller in size, suddenly appeared beside the Nerubian Assassin. Using a Scroll of Town Portal, the Nerubian Weaver teleported Anub'arak to safety, while leaving the Frostsaber cub and Pandaren Brewmaster alone.

"You saved me, little Frostsaber. Thank you." Mangix said to the innocent cub, who was in a daze as a result of what he had done.

The Pandaren Brewmaster continued on his journey to his village.

    [Chapter Four]

The Pandaren Brewmaster continued his journey to his village.

Walking in the dense forest, injured and exhausted, Mangix staggered towards his Pandaren village. A brown-coloured roof of a house caught Mangix's sight, and he was relieved to know that he had finally arrived at his destination. Carrying the Frostsaber cub in his furry arms, he walked toward the cluster of houses ahead.

A number of Pandarens crowded around Mangix, pointing and staring at the Frostsaber cub as he walked by. A team of two Pandaren priests, dressed in robes, rushed to the Pandaren Brewmaster.

"What happened? What is the feline you are holding in your arms, Mangix?" The first Pandaren healer asked, while ushering Mangix to sit down.

"I was under attack by Anub'arak, but I am unhurt, thanks to the little feline here," Mangix replied, stroking the cub. "Get the cub some milk, he's hungry."

Hearing the order, the Pandaren priest shouted to the other priest to get milk for the cub, while he waved his hand, as if chanting a spell. A whitish glow from the priest's hands appeared, and the priest pointed his hands at the Pandaren Brewmaster. The whitish glow became brighter, and floated towards the Pandaren Brewmaster. Upon contact with Mangix's body, the glow dissipated and he glowed with an awesome white.

Mangix's energy slowly returned, and he was able to stand up properly. Just as he stood up, the second priest ran towards him, holding a container full of milk, with a pacifier on the cover of the container. Mangix grabbed of the container, and feeded the Frostsaber cub with it. The cub suckled from the pacifier on the container.

"He looks just like one of us when we were young!" A group of young Pandarens exclaimed excitedly from the crowd.

Suddenly, the first Pandaren priest asked, "Whose cub is that?"

"It's Malfurion's, he made me in charge of taking care of the Frostsaber cub."

After that, Mangix carried the cub and feeded him at the same time, and walked towards his house. The crowd dispersed soon after, and activities resumed as normal.

    - - - - - - -

Upon reaching his house, Mangix took some time to play with the cub. Knowing that his parents were killed by Gnolls, Mangix felt pity for the cub. Having no parents to take care of them, a Frostsaber cub would die in the wild if left uncared for.

After finishing the milk, Mangix carried the cub to a basket, full of grass and paper for cushion. Mangix placed the cub inside the small basket, and rocked it to sleep. In the mean time, The Pandaren Brewmaster puts down his keg, and rested on a chair nearby. Exhausted from the battle with the Nerubian Assassin and all the walking he had done, his eyes became heavy in a matter of minutes. His head slumped down, and his hat covered his face as he slowly fell asleep.

Day soon turned to night as the Pandaren Brewmaster dozed off. The cub, still curious of his surroundings, woke up and got out of the basket. Exploring the room silently and cautiously, the Frostsaber cub prowled around the room, as if practicing how to stalk prey.

The feline approached a door, and attempted to push it open. Frustrated at a failed attempt, the cub backed off, and rushed towards the door, trying to knock it down with brute force. A banging sound was heard in the room, and Mangix stirred from his sleep as a result of the constant banging.

Surprised by what the cub was doing, Mangix stood up and walked towards the cub, who was scratching at the door by then. The Pandaren Brewmaster carried the cub by the abdomen, and lifted it to the basket.

"What a naughty little kitty-cat you are," Mangix scolded. "Go back to sleep, naughty little kitty-cat!"

Mangix puts the Frostsaber cub inside the basket once again, and covered it with the grass and paper bits from the basket.

Tired out from all the scratching and jumping, the cub finally decided to settle down for the night. The cub lay down in the basket, and fell asleep in no time, just like a baby.

"Finally asleep. This cat might be more annoying in the future. I hope this doesn't get it into trouble!" Mangix said to himself.

Looking outside, Mangix saw shadows of trees that mysteriously loom into the room. The night was dead silent, with crickets chirping loudly, and the night breeze blew, making the leaves rustle and trees sway.

"Well, time to sleepy-sleep! It's late!" The Pandaren Brewmaster suddenly exclaimed, walking towards his resting armchair.

Mangix suddenly remembered the Nerubian Weaver's speed and stealth. Uncomfortable and worried for the worry of another attack, he opened his eyes and watched his surroundings for any movements.

The cub was sound asleep, and Mangix was somewhat relieved because of this fact. Sensing and seeing no obvious sign of danger, Mangix lowered his guard and relaxed himself to rest.

As soon as his eyes were about to close, a sudden movement in the outside of the house startled him. The first thought that came to his mind, was the frightening possibility of an attack from Anub'Seran.

The Pandaren Brewmaster jumped from his chair, and looked around. He clenched his furry, bear-like fists, and stood in a defensive position, watching for the slightest twitch in his surroundings that could pose a threat.

A colossal, shadowy figure slowly appeared at the door of the room, which was only behind the Pandaren Brewmaster. Unknowing of the threat behind him, Mangix continued to stay put.

    "It's time to die... Mangix..."
